Fabric Considerations
For this sewing pattern, you must use stretch fabric. Stretch fabric can be quite unpredictable and different fiber combinations act differently. The pattern was sized with 100% cotton pointelle knit fabric with horizontal stretch only and low shape retention. Please consider the following when selecting fabric and selecting size.
100% cotton jersey/100% cotton knit
Using stretch fabric that is 100% cotton jersey or cotton knit provides breathability, softness, and flexibility. Cotton is more sturdy than viscose jersey.
Cotton & elastane/spandex
A small percentage (5-8%) of elastane usually provides better shape retention and will not loosen over time. Cotton is more sturdy than viscose jersey. This will create a more snug and tight-fitting garment.
Viscose jersey & elastane/spandex
Viscose jersey provides a beautiful silky drape and a lightweight feel, but less breathability than 100% cotton. Pure viscose jersey has poor shape retention, however, adding a small percentage (5-8%) of elastane gives the fabric better shape retention. Viscose weakens when exposed to moisture and/or sweat, so consider this when sewing underwear. This fabric also loses its shape or structural integrity faster than a cotton + spandex fabric.
100% cotton pointelle knit
Pointelle knit fabric with 100% cotton is a very cute option for this sewing pattern. This fabric is soft, lightweight, and has great breathability. However, this fabric has poor shape retention and may stretch out over time.
