Fabric Considerations
This sewing pattern works amazingly with flowy lightweight fabric. Here are recommendations for your new skirt.
Rayon
Rayon is a semi-synthetic textile fiber made from regenerated natural cellulose, typically derived from wood pulp. Rayon is breathable and has beautiful drape - an ideal fabric for this pattern. Use a rayon crepe fabric to add a touch of texture to your garment.
Tencel™ / Lyocell ís a trademarked brand of rayon fabric with a more eco-friendly production, it is also highly durable.
Viscose
Viscose is a type of rayon fabric. Viscose comes in many shapes and forms. It has beautiful drape, breathability, and is an ideal candidate for this sewing pattern. Viscose georgette adds a beautiful texture to your garment, this is sheer and grainy and will likely require lining.
When purchasing viscose, consider looking for the "Ecovero" label to ensure the fabric is more eco-responsible, this means it is created with a reduced chemical usage and traceable wood sources.
Silk
Silk fabrics like charmeuse silk will make beautiful skirts, although silk can be on the pricier side. Consider looking for fabric blends like cotton silk and viscose silk blends for an added silk touch while remaining affordable.
Cotton
Cotton is one of the most versatile fabrics. Lightweight cotton fabrics work best if your intention is a flowy skirt. Stay away from woven quilting cottons since these will make your skirt stiff. Make this skirt with a cute cotton embroidery or cotton seersucker to add some texture to your skirt.
This is not a comprehensive list. This sewing pattern will work with a wide array of different fabrics not mentioned here. This could include lightweight linen or linen-blend. Many of the above fabrics also come in blends like a silk cotton which is more affordable than a pure silk fabric. Consider looking for Tencel™ / Lyocell and linen blends, these are often lightweight and flowy.
Always wash your fabrics before using.
